About SSC
Laura started hosting Social Sector Club gatherings in the fall of 2023 because she felt like there were not enough opportunities for non-profit sector colleagues to gather informally, to connect on our own terms, share knowledge and to remind ourselves of the joy that can be found in and outside of this work.
From a couple of small early gatherings with a few people, Social Sector Club has now grown into monthly sellout events, an annual bowling tournament and partnerships creating capacity building learning opportunities for those who work in the non-profit sector and those who love them.
Social Sector Club is now entering a new chapter. We are working hard to build a thriving social enterprise that gives back to those who hold the fabric of our communities together – the changemakers, the champions, the helpers. We firmly believe that if we support those doing the work, organizations, missions and communities have a stronger chance of flourishing. And we could use more of that, wouldn’t you agree?

Meet The Team
Don Francis
My name is Laura Istead and I’m the Founder and Lead Gatherer of the Social Sector Club.
Other titles I’m proud to hold include daughter, sister, aunt, grand-daughter and friend. I am an avid baker, gardener and crafter, passionate CFL football and Blue Jay baseball fan and am currently working to improve my German on Duolingo.
Ashley Jones
Hi, I’m Kate Webster!
I’m the Chief Marketing and Momentum Officer at Social Sector Club. I’m responsible for all our marketing and design work, our social media content and all things wordy. I also keep the train on the rails by managing our operations and logistics. I especially love planning our events, like the annual bowling tournament!
